About
Puerto Rico
Located just east of the Dominican Republic and west of the Virgin Islands,
Puerto Rico is a country who treats is visitors to a blend of multi-ethnic
influences, rich outdoor exploration opportunities and a stronger infrastructure
then some of its Caribbean counterparts. As a US territory, Puerto Rico
has avoided some of the poverty and crime that some of its neighbors,
such as Haiti, have unfortunately experienced, and has benefited with
better highways and well paved roads in areas such as the El Yunque
rainforest. However, despite the US involvement Puerto Rico stays true
to its roots by offering a mix or Native American, African and Spanish
flavor which is ever apparent in its song, dance, food and architecture.

Old
San Juan: Viejo San Juan is a central port area of restored Spanish
colonial buildings (the oldest dating back to the 1500s) many of which
have wrought-iron balconies fronted by narrow, cobblestone streets.
Explorer Ponce De Leon’s first settlement was here back 1511 and
he named the area “puerto rico”, which in English means
“rich port”.
El
Yunque: The aforementioned 28,000 acre Caribbean National Forest, aka
El Yunque, is home to a prosperous population of trees, plants and animals,
including millions of little tree frogs, “coquis” in Spanish,
hopping around. More than 100 billion inches of annual precipitation
falls in this area.
La
Ruta Panoramica: Famous 165-mile long route of roads which wind and
slice through and along scenic beaches, waterfalls, quaint villages
and swimming holes.
Gambling:
This used to be the top tourist activity in Puerto Rico. Today, island
casinos are still hoping which games such as baccarat, blackjack, craps,
roulette and slots which you can all play while sipping on some Caribbean
rum.
